MEMORIES KEPT

Last summer, as a storybook

Upload the photographs from a real day, and get back an illustrated book about it. The photographs themselves never appear in it.

No card, no password. One book to keep, whatever you decide after.

A generated stand-in photo: a girl in a yellow swimsuit jumps off the end of a wooden jetty holding her nose, while her mum stands waist-deep in the lake with her arms open and her little brother and their dog watch from the jetty. The same moment as a watercolour page: the girl mid-jump above the splash, her mum laughing in the water, her brother and the dog beside the cool box on the jetty.
Left, a generated stand-in photo of a fictional family: nobody in it is real. Right, the page Infinight drew from it in the memory-book flow.
  • Your photos, drawn rather than printed

Each photo becomes one page, drawn in the art style you chose. It is the moment rendered as an illustration, not the photo with a filter on it, which is why it sits on the same shelf as the made-up stories instead of looking like a photo book.

  • You write the captions, we write the book

Say what was happening in each picture, in as few words as you like. Reorder the moments, drop the ones that did not work, and the story is written from your captions in the order you put them.

  • Everybody keeps their face

The people who turn up in more than one photograph get a reference sheet, so the same aunt is recognisably the same aunt on every page she is on. You can also tag people you have already saved, and their card supplies the details.

  • The photos are deleted afterwards

By default, the originals are removed once the book is finished. There is a checkbox if you want to keep them, off unless you turn it on. They are never used to train anything.

Making a memory book from five generated stand-in photos of a fictional family's day at a lake: each photo with its caption, and who is in it tagged.
The same moment as a watercolour page: the girl mid-jump above the splash, her mum laughing in the water, her brother and the dog beside the cool box on the jetty. The same moment as a paper-cut collage: layered paper shapes for the jetty, the trees and the water, the girl mid-jump and her mum laughing below. The same moment as a bright cartoon: clean outlines and clear colours, the girl mid-jump, her mum in the lake, her brother and the dog on the jetty.
One page in three of the art styles you can choose: watercolour, paper-cut and cartoon. Same family, same moment, the style is yours to pick.

One hard rule

A memory book can never be published to the public library, and that is enforced in the code rather than being a warning you can click past. These books are built from photographs of real relatives, including children, and there is no version of publishing them that we are comfortable with.

Other ways into a story

  • Rosie and Lucas stand in a wet street at dusk in their raincoats and wellies, Comet beside them, the harbour lights glowing behind.

    THEIR OWN ADVENTURE

A story nobody has told yet

A lighthouse with a nest in it, a lift that stops at floor thirteen. You give one line, and they get the starring role.

    About adventures
  • In a stone workshop at the top of a tower block, a small boy in a red bicycle helmet cheers as an old broom sprouts twig legs and picks up a bucket.

    YOUR CHILD IN A CLASSIC

The tale you grew up with

Goethe's broom, Grimm's forest, Aesop's hare. The old words stay, and your child walks in between them.

    About classics
    • Starting at the big school on Monday
    • A baby sister is coming in the spring
    • Moving to a house with a red door

    A BIG MOMENT

    For the week everything changes

School on Monday, a baby on the way, a move, a goodbye. A gentle story to walk through it once first.

    About life moments
